South Bay Scooter Club Newsletter - 02/01/2006

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SOUTH BAY SCOOTER CLUB NEWSLETTER – FEBRUARY 1, 2006
- Now reaching over 335 SoCal scooterists -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello, Everyone -

Happy February!! This is going to be a very scooter-filled month, so I’m looking forward to it, and everyone else should be, too. Starting it off, don’t forget that this Saturday is the South Bay Monthly Ride, the longest running regular ride in all of Southern California. Forecasts say it should be great weather for a ride, so come on out! 12:30pm at Claim Jumper’s in Torrance. See the info in the Events section below, and we’ll see you all there...

Last Sunday’s Scooter Shop Swap Meet was pretty big – looked like the biggest turnout ever for one of those. Saw some bikes being sold and dealt, along with lots of scooter parts, so that was all good. You all got to see my busted up Rally 200 (yeah, that was the one from my accident) sitting in front of the shop as well. Mic is going to start restoring it for me in March with my insurance money, so that should be good... Hope everyone got what they wanted at the Swap Meet, and if not, at least the food from the BBQ was damn good (how about that pulled pork? YUM!).

Well, I finally got my room for the upcoming Las Vegas Rally last week. Now all I need is some way to get my scooter there. And, I’m not the only one who needs transpo for their scoot. There are a couple other folks I know who are lookin’ as well. SO, if you’ve got some extra room in your truck, or trailer, and would be willing to help some of us out, please let me know. I’m sure some extra gas money from one of us could definitely help out and make a win-win for everyone. I’d appreciate it, as I’m sure some other folks would, too, so that we could ride our scoots out in Vegas as well. Thanks a lot!!

And, there are some new details concerning the all-LA Scooter Rally, LOS ANGELES WINTER SCOOT 2006, happening the weekend after Las Vegas. Big news is that Scooterists can get in to the Saturday show for $15 presale or DOS (normally $20 presale, $25 DOS). With the Saturday event entry, you will also be able to attend the sunday night DJ event for free. You MUST be on the list to get this price. Sign the online petition at the following link to get on the list: http://new.petitiononline.com/echofest/petition.html. Also, I was able to finish the event flyer designs and Jason got them printed last week, too. You can see them at: http://www.lawless-street.com/echofest/. Be sure to check out all the event info listed below...

And, this news tidbit just in: Westside Sean just got a job as head of tech of Piaggio. He starts next month! Congratulations and good luck, Sean!!! We know you’ll do well in your new position.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT ALL THE NEW RIDES AND RALLY INFO JUST ADDED! A lot of rally information has been added all the way through to the end of next year (2006), such as our own SWERVE N CURVE #7, Hedonism, Orange Crush, King Tut Putt, March for Mods, Amerivespa, etc. Check out these and all the other new events that have been listed, below. Or else be sure to check out and bookmark our online Upcoming Events page. And, if you or your club are organizing a ride or having an event that you’d like the rest of the SoCal scoots to know about, just e-mail me and I’ll be sure to put it in the newsletter!

And, I want to invite everyone to check out our SOUTH BAY SC MySpace page, at: http://www.myspace.com/southbayscooterclub. If you are a MySpace user, be sure to sign up and become one of our “friends.” Check out the fun Profile pics, as well...

Lastly, you may have noticed the rising newsletter “circulation” numbers at the top. I have slowly been re-establishing the e-mail address list I lost in early 2005, due to computer problems, and it’s been slowly reaching the numbers we used to have before. BUT, if you know people who still aren’t getting it, have fellow of your own club members that don’t get it, or know new riders who would like to get it, send me their e-mail address so we can get ‘em hooked up! You can send their addresses to: mario@southbayscooterclub.com.

Cheers, Mario

Just updated: the PHOTOS section

Highly endorsed by Birdie & Dan, this website is growing by the day. ;)

Background: After trying to find information online to try to figure out my 1958 Rumi Formichino scooter (which won “Best Vintage Scooter” at Orange Crush 8, Birdie), I gave up!!! There was absolutely NO helpful info online, or practically anywhere else, for that matter. Luckily, I joined the Moto Rumi Club, based in England, which provided a ton of info about my little scooter. Now, to help out other Formichino owners, and for curious scooter enthusiasts, I have started constructing my “Little Rumi Formichino website” that will ultimately have quite a bit of info about the maintenance, parts, history etc., of this great scoot.

There is some info on there already, so if you’re curious & you’d like to check it out, go to:

Well, that’s it. Have a good time on all the rides...!

CIAO,
Mario
